Doxology
33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
35 “Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”
36 For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11
The starting point of the study of God is the recognition that He is unknowable. When we seek to know God, we should begin by acknowledging what we seek is not possible.
Knowledge of God is a gift of God; the greatest gift He gives.
For whatever reason, God decided that He wanted a relationship with beings that He created. The basis of relationship is mutual knowledge. The created is seemingly unlike the creator. Yet, somehow is an image of Him. The beginning of scripture proclaims that He made us in His image. How can this be true? We are so different from Him. We are finite; He is infinite. He is holy; we are not. He knows it all; we seem to know nothing at all. He is love; We seem incapable of even understanding the concept.
These vast differences mean God’s promise that one day we would know Him possible only with a miracle.
We seem oblivious to the need for the miraculous for us to know the creator. With pitifully little evidence, we claim to know Him. We assert that our knowledge is superior to others. We look at His word and claim its clear support of our “knowledge” although we gather in 30,000 to 40,000 different denominations. We shun, murder or damn those whose “knowledge” is different from and thus obviously inferior to ours.
We make what can only be the product of miracle, the subject of debate and petty bickering.
On Wednesday night, 7 p.m. at Amana (Amana Christian Fellowship,310 Milton Rd * Maurice, LA (map)) I will fill in for our pastor and begin to explore the miracle of the knowledge of God. Join us. It should be fun and could be miraculous. We promise to have you out in an hour. Miracles come in many forms.
Agree with this, or better yet disagree? I love to speak to small groups about the things I post. I can talk to your entire church or small group, your breakfast or supper club (do we still have those?). No charge of course, except the one I get out of doing it. However, if food is involved I will stay later. Email me, I dare you.
