Rock Solid

You are the rock of my salvation.

You are the strength of my life.

You are my hope and my inspiration.

Lord unto You will I cry.

I believe in you, believe in you.

For your faithful love to me.

You have been my help

in time of need.

Lord unto You will I cleave.

You are the rock of my salvation.

You are the strength of my life.

You are my hope and my inspiration.

Lord unto You will I cry.

You are the rock of my salvation.

You are the strength of my life.

You are my hope and my inspiration.

Lord unto You will I cry.

I have come to realize that I am not a rock. This revelation did not come easily or quickly. For most of my life I have tried to act like a rock or even to be a rock; it just ain’t so. My life is too much like a roller coaster ride for me to be considered a rock. I am too inconsistent and unreliable to be a rock; I am much more like shifting sand.

A rock is unchanging. I change like the wind. A rock is substantial. I seemed to be made of mush.

This revelation is important. It emphasizes how much I need Jesus. He is, in fact, a rock. Sure he had emotions and displayed them during his life. He laughed, cried, was joyful and sad. But he never wavered from His path or His purpose. I need something like that to build on, to attach myself to. This world isn’t great and it is getting worse. The storms are going to increase and the winds are going to blow harder. A rock is necessary for foundation and stability. Jesus is the only one that works as a rock. He has the substance, the durability, unchangeableness, and strength.

I do a disservice to others when I let them think that I am a rock. Any stability that others think exists in my life comes from Jesus. I need to let them know He is a rock. If they put their faith in me, disappointment is a guarantee. Somehow I need to stop play the role of rock and play the role of rock introducer.

Here’s my savior Jesus. He’s a rock you can count on. Don’t put your faith anywhere else. Don’t trust in any man. Don’t be deceived that the only one you can trust is yourself. You will disappoint yourself as surely as you will disappoint others.

He’s the rock of my salvation. Cling to Him. But beware, others might mistake you for a rock.

Be blessed.

Nick
