I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21: 2-4 NIV
“I believe we and mainly you have an incredible opportunity to lead in shaping a new world order for the twenty-first century in a way consistent with American interests and common interests,” Vice Pres. Biden said this week to the 995 members of the Air Force Academy class of 2014. Biden and many others seem to believe that a New World Order is something man can create. “New World Order” is an interesting phrase. Conspiracy theorist have for decades claimed that a secret group of powerful men are working toward a one world government that will be a “New World Order.” The phrase strikes a positive chord with a world that is tired of the way things are and is convinced that things could be better.
The world is certainly out-of-order. Evil is called “good.” In the countries where Christianity once blossomed, churches are empty or turned into mosques. The church is most vibrant in places that just a generation ago were mission fields. In those places, it’s dangerous to be a Christian. It’s not the “in” thing. It means pain, crying, mourning and death.
When men get a little power they begin to believe they could fix everything, if only they could be in “complete” control. It’s not surprising since most of us believe that we can fix our own lives if only we had complete control. Control in the hands of God is the only solution. He has given us a period of free will for us to find this out on our own, but it won’t always be that way.
One day there will be a New World Order. It won’t be what Vice President Biden envisions. It won’t be brought about by powerful men, their money or their armies. It won’t happen because the “right” men seize complete control. It will happen because God seizes control and dwells with His people.
John was a favorite of Jesus. In his last days, he lived in a world like today’s. Evil was called “good.” Christians were slaughtered. Times were bad. Jesus comforted him with a vision and a promise. One day the world will be in order. Heaven will be on earth. God will dwell with His people. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. The old order of things will have passed away and a New World Order will arrive. Even now, in the “old” order, peace and joy is possible if we acknowledge and surrender control.
The New World Order can’t come soon enough. Mr. Biden, you won’t have a thing to do with it.
