Happy Birthday America

Happy Birthday America. I am lucky to have been born an American. I  am proud to have devoted eleven years to your service in the Navy. You have provided haven for those fleeing persecution and poverty over your many years. My celebration is a bit restrained.

You are being to show your age. You have passed several critical tipping points. You have gone from being reliant on God to thinking you are God. While you once supported the Kingdom, you now are lead by those who think they are kings.  Lot’s of folks do that in their own lives, but those tragedies are multiplied when it happens to an entire country.

You have gone from honoring and supporting those who work hard to supporting those who don’t. That’s never  a good thing and the economic strain is starting to show. The hardest workers are those who have come with visions of how it used to be only to learn how it is. You have tipped from workforce to welfare.

You have gone from being humble and grateful to prideful and arrogant. The world no longer looks with admiration but shakes its head with disgust.

I say these things not like those who wish you harm. I say them with love. I still love you and pray for you. I must, however, devote even more of my energies to the real King. The legacy I wish to leave my grand and even great grandchildren, has to be citizenship in His Kingdom and service to his Lordship. More than ever I can’t confuse the “church” and the “state.” There is only one King who matters and his name is Jesus.

I hope things turn around for you, but the book I trust most doesn’t paint a very pretty picture. In fact, what’s happening is all there in the final chapters. I suppose it’s never too late, but it’s really very late.

Happy birthday old friend. I honor you for all you’ve done. I weep for what you’ve become.

Agree with this, or better yet disagree? I love to speak to small groups about the things I post. I can talk to your entire church or small group, your breakfast or supper club (do we still have those?).  No charge of course, except the one I get out of doing it. However, if food is involved I will stay later. Email me, I dare you.
