During a movie I was watching last night one of the characters said, “Want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” Life is like that. At 64, I am not at the place I planned to be at this age. Upon careful thought, it’s actually a better place.
It’s taken a lifetime to realize that God has a better plan. I guess life is too important to entrust to the young. We don’t have any idea what’s best for us when we are kids. It’s no surprise that God would one up our youthful plans. We don’t get a lot smarter as we age. As we grow older, we continue to have foolish plans and to make wrong turns and God continues to take us where we need to be.
Life becomes so much easier when we finally realize that we are not in control. We can experience joy and peace when we stop regretting that we are not where we planned to be and realize that we are where God wants us to be and that it’s a much better place. It’s that wonderful place where we stop regretting the past and no longer worry about our future. We enjoy and make the best of our present.
Where we are today is where God designed us to be. It’s a place where we need to be. It’s a destination for a day. There is a job that needs to be done. It’s not yesterday’s job or tomorrow’s. It’s the job for today. It may be no more than giving a smile or saying a word. It may be as much as sharing a life changing story or making a small change in direction in someone’s life that will forever change their eventual destination. Whatever it is, it’s God’s destination for us for today and for that reason it’s eternally significant.
Be aware and in tune with today’s destination and don’t miss the opportunity to make the difference today that God intended, from the beginning. And be completely blessed because there is a new significant destination tomorrow.
